The National Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association (NOWRA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are pleased to announce the Model Code State Onsite Regulator Workshop. It is part of an overall education and outreach program for regulators and policy officials who manage onsite and decentralized systems within a regulatory framework.

The workshop assists regulators and policy officials in understanding how to use the Code Framework to evaluate, revise, or develop codes governing onsite systems. It also identifies options available and steps involved to accomplish this process.

The program includes an overview of the newly adopted documents on CD, entitled the Model Code Framework for the Decentralized Wastewater Infrastructure, released in March 2007.

Workshop topics presented include:
  • “Designing the Future – Assessing Onsite Programs”
  • “NOWRA’s Model Code Framework” how it can be used to assist state and local programs in rule revision.
  • “What does performance mean?” Applying a performance approach to a real situation helps participants understand meanings of the work.
Group discussion occurs following each of the presentations.

All workshop participants receive a CD containing the Model Code Framework documents and a workbook containing the Executive Summary and presentation.

Model Code Regulator Workshops are at no cost and are open to all state and local government officials involved in onsite wastewater and decentralized systems.

An educational and informational website (www.modelcode.org) contains all documents, as well as ongoing updates. Workshops have been held in Lexington, KY and Baltimore, MD, Denver, CO and Yakima, WA.
