The link between the water you drink and the water you dispose of is one that many people never connect. The SMART About Water project at the National Environmental Service Center (NESC), in collaboration with the Rural Community Assistance Partnership (RCAP), helps small communities understand the concept of Source Water Protection and wellhead protection. The program provides training and technical assistance about source water planning and pinpoints untreated wastewater from failing septic and sewer systems, the largest contributor to water quality degradation.
The links below provide informational resources, available from the NESC SMART About Water project, that are related to these issues and can be used to assist small communities and individuals learn what they can do to help their community and the environment.
