The
National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC) maintains five databases
that provide information about all aspects of sewage treatment.
Three of these databases can be searched online:
The
Regulations Database
contains copies of regulations for onsite wastewater treatment
systems in 48 states. This collection can help customers seeking
information for a particular state or those who want to compare
regulatory structures between states.
The
Bibliographic Database
stores thousands of articles dealing with onsite and small
community wastewater issues. Customers can search for a particular
technology and receive the latest literature on the subject.
The
Manufacturers and Consultants
Database houses a list of industry contacts for wastewater
products and consulting services. This database serves both
as a reference for engineers, private citizens, and small
community officials and a referral database for wastewater
products and trade items.
The
NSFC has two additional databases that will not go online
due to the confidential nature of some information. These
include:
Facilities Database:
approximately 1,000 facilities using conventional, innovative,
and alternative wastewater treatment technologies; and
Contacts and Referrals
Database: a list of organizations involved in onsite
and small community wastewater infrastructure at the national,
state, and local levels.
To
access the Facilities or Contacts and Referrals Databases,
you may
call the NSFC at (800)
624-8301 or (304) 293-4191
to request a search. An NSFC technical assistant will discuss
the results with you to generate a list of desired articles,
contacts, or other information as appropriate. Search results
are made available upon request.
NSFC's
technical assistants gather information from a variety
of sources and verify it for accuracy. The NSFC regularly
updates holdings and ensures that the wastewater community
is aware of these resources. It should be noted that the NSFC
does not certify consultants or endorse products.
To
have your product, service, organization, or facility included
in the databases, please call the NSFC at (800)
624-8301 or (304) 293-4191
and dial a 2
for wastewater technical assistance.
How
can the databases help me?
Here's an example of how the databases have been used: A caller
from a homeowners association was considering using ultraviolet
(UV) disinfection for a package plant and requested information
about UV disinfection. An NSFC technical assistant searched
the Bibliographic Database and located several articles and
case studies about UV disinfection. From the Manufacturers
and Consultants Database, the technical assistant created
a list of the UV disinfection system manufacturers, as well
as the
consultants that design those systems.
The Facilities Database furnished facility contacts who were
using UV technology, and the Regulations Database verified
that UV disinfection was allowed in the caller's state. The
Contacts and Referrals Database provided information about
experts in the UV industry and possible funding sources for
UV disinfection systems.
