Absorption System Onsite regulations for Wyoming were last amended in May 1984. There are currently no plans to update or revise the existing code. The state of Wyoming is not considering the implementation of performance based standards. Innovative and experimental technologies are defined as anything not specifically addressed with the regulations. All alternative and experimental technologies are listed in Section 5 Chapter XI of the regulations. The current regulations approve the use of aerobic treatment units (ATUs), alternative soil absorption designs, evapotranspiration systems, gravelless/chamber systems, mounds, and sand filters. Wyoming onsite regulations do not require maintenance districts or management systems to monitor and maintain onsite systems. Wyoming has a funding program available to assist homeowners with replacing failing systems or installing new ones. Contact Mr. Robinson with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for more information. Wyoming does not have a state onsite certification or licensing program for contractors, installers, or inspectors; however, some individual counties license haulers and installers. Currently, there are no ongoing research or demonstration projects in the state of Wyoming. Large municipal septic system regulations are also administered by the DEQ.
