Oregon Administrative Rules for On-Site Sewage Disposal
Chapter 340, Divisions 71 and 73

April 1, 1995

The State of Oregon updates onsite wastewater regulations approximately once every ten years. Minor changes occur to the regulations on an ãas neededä basis. The last update occurred in April 1995.  Currently, no plans exist to update or revise the existing regulations.

Innovative and alternative (I/A) technologies are covered in a separate section within the regulations.  Sections are added to the regulations after an experimental time period followed by a technical review period.  Some I/A technologies are authorized under construction grants.

The  Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) sets a maximum level for fees to be assessed for individual systems. Local County Health Departments may use a standard fee that does not exceed the maximum level set by the state.

Management systems are required on a case-by-case basis.

An onsite certification program is administered by DEQ the for individuals who install onsite systems.

The DEQ is also responsible for all municipal waste regulations. Ms. Judy Johndohl with the DEQ can be contacted at (503) 229-6896, for further information concerning municipal wastewater regulations. Mr. Chuck Hopkins or Mr. Raj Kapur, also with the DEQ, can be reached at (503) 229-6528 and (503) 229-5185, respectively, or at the above address concerning industrial waste regulations.
