Florida State Regulations

Florida Constitutions, Statutes and Codes

Florida Administrative Code Standards for On-Site Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems
Chapter 10D-6
January 3, 1995

The State of Florida updates onsite wastewater regulations every three to five years.  The regulations for Florida were last updated January 3, 1995.

Innovative and alternative (I/A) technologies are listed under subsection amendments to the current regulations.  Aerobic treatment units (ATUs) are covered under an individual section.  Sand filters, mounds, chamber systems, effluent distribution systems and alternative drainfields are covered under the alternative technologies' sections.  Pending legislative activity may necessitate additional rule revisions within the next two years.

Fees are assessed only for the manufacturer of individual ATUs and innovative systems.

The Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services handles commercial flows less than 5000 gallons/day and residential flows less than 10,000 gallons/day.  The Florida Department of  Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for municipal and industrial waste regulations with commercial flows greater than 5000 gallons/day and residential flows exceeding 10,000 gallons/day.  The contact at the DEP is Mr. Michael Wetherington, who can be reached at:
