Developed
by the National Environmental Training Center for Small Communities,
Walkabout Production Company, and Training Consultants, Inc.
This
curriculum helps local decision makers in small communities understand
and implement management practices that will improve their ability
to provide safe drinking water to their communities in accordance
with the 1996 reauthorized Safe Drinking Water Act. Topics include:
local officials responsibilities for providing safe drinking
water, regulations, basics of a drinking water system, system operation
and maintenance, administrative management practices, working with
consultants and assistance providers, managing people, communicating
with the public, financial management, and financing system projects
or upgrades.
This course is designed to be flexible and applicable across the
country. The Trainers Guide illustrates how to use the materials
as a foundation upon which to build state-specific capacity development
training. The 10 Participant Modules may be used together as part
of a two-to-three day training session, in any combination to meet
more targeted training needs, or as stand-alone materials to emphasize
a particular aspect of effective system management. Self-study components
are built into the materials so that local officials can learn on
their own if they are unable to attend a training session.
The complete training package includes the Trainers Guide,
10 Participant Modules, and all supporting materials. The participant
modules can be purchased individually or as a set without the Trainers
Guide.
