State FOIA Laws: A Guide to Protecting Sensitive Water Security Information

This guide addresses critical infrastructure
security information protection issues involving
water and wastewater utilities. It offers information
that public utilities may use to address
open records and Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA) policies and to change these where
necessary for security purposes. This five-part
guide can help utilities assess state laws relevant
to their particular situations. Sections
include:

  • general themes associated with state FOIA issues,
  • tate FOIA models that utilities may use to lobby their governors and state legislators,
  • strategies for gaining legislative and political approval,
  • FOIA-related amendments recently passed by Virginia and Iowa, and
  • general categories of state FOIA laws and policies.

Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal System Interactive Training CD-ROM, Version 1.5

Developed by the Volusia County, Florida, Department of Environmental Health

The interactive CD-ROM was developed to train new health department officials dealing with onsite wastewater treatment, but it will also be useful to other onsite wastewater professionals, including septic system designers, installers, and inspectors. It uses video, photographs, and animation to explain many aspects on onsite wastewater treatment. A series of portable document format (PDF) files allow the user to download and print forms, tables, flow charts, and diagrams. While some of the information is specific to Florida regulations,
much of the material is general enough to be useful anywhere. The training takes eight to 12 hours to complete. The CD-ROM requires a PC operating on Windows 95® or later.
