Selecting search terms

You may search the database by state, contaminant, vendor, technology, or population, or by any combination of these categories. For each category, either select "ALL" or choose any number of selections.

User interface

Using a PC
To select more than one option, click on the desired options while holding down the control key. To deselect an option, click on it while holding down the control key. To select continuous options, hold down the shift key while selecting the last option. If you click on an option withouth holding down the control or shift keys, all previously selected options will be deselected when you click on a new option.

Using a Macintosh
To select more than one option, click on the desired options while holding down the Apple key. To deselect an option, click on it while holding down the Apple key. To select continuous options, hold down the shift key while selecting the last option. If you click on an option withouth holding down the Apple or shift keys, all previously selected options will be deselected when you click on a new option.

Options in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS

Options in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS include the "ALL" options for each category, and other group headings for contaminants and technologies. Selecting "ALL" in any category is equivalent to selecting every option within that category. Selecting a capitalized group heading for contaminants or technologies is equivalent to selecting all non-capitalized options below the group heading. For example, selecting "ALL BASIC WATER QUALITY PARAMETERS" in the contaminants category is equivalent to selecting "All Basic Water Quality Measures," "Color," "Odor," "Total Dissolved Solids," and "Other Basic Water Quality Measures."

Clarifications for selected database fields

Treatment capacity. Treatment capacity may be a range or a single number, and may correspond to the maximum or design capacity or the average production. Values are entered in the database as they are given in the questionnaire.

Vendors. Vendors include manufacturers or suppliers of treatment equipment, distributors of chemicals used in the treatment, and consulting firms.

Other selection. The word "other" in a selection means those that are not included in the above mentioned selections. For example, "Other Inorganic Chemicals" represents those that are not mentioned above, or some new chemicals that may be included in the future.
