| Drinking Water Operators Information NDWC Tech Briefs - Free for downloading, our fact sheets provide concise, technical information about a drinking water treatment technology and issues relevant to small systems.Tech Briefs are written for drinking water professionals, particularly small system operators. Tables and descriptive illustrations are provided, as well as sources for more information. They are free to download and included in On Tap magazine. If you have a technical question contact us at (800) 624-8301 or e-mail info@mail.nesc.wvu.edu. NDWC Ask the Experts - Q & A's Online - Experts answer tough drinking water questions about a variety of subjects. Download them free! Free and Low-Cost Online Training Tools from EPA Interactive Sampling Guide for Drinking Water System Operators - This interactive CD-Rom and web site is part of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) ongoing public drinking water sustainable infrastructure efforts. Drinking Water Operator Certification Guidelines - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued guidelines for certification and recertification of community and noncommunity public water system operators. The Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1996 require EPA, in cooperation with states, to publish guidelines specifying minimum standards for certification and recertification. Free Federal Safe Drinking Water Act Rule Wizard - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed this on-line application to enable you to determine the federal monitoring requirements for public drinking water systems. It provides a comprehensive list of all of the federal monitoring requirements for a general category of systems. For example, you can use it to review the federal monitoring requirements for a community water system serving 3,300 people using ground water as a source of supply. Small Systems Information and Guidance: STEP - Simple Tools for Effective Performance The EPA has developed a series of tools to help owners and operators of small systems manage their systems and meet regulatory requirements. Water Contaminant Information Tool (WCIT) - This secure, on-line database that provides current, reliable information on chemical, biological, and radiological contaminants of concern for water security. Access to this password-protected tool will be granted to personnel from drinking water and wastewater utilities, State Primacy (primary enforcement) Agencies, federal officials (including government laboratory personnel), and water associations. This tool was developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Explorer: Technical Assistance for Small Water Systems -
Intended for operators
and junior-level regulatory officials, focuses on contamination issues
for public drinking water systems. Biological sources of contamination
are highlighted, with a primary emphasis on ways that operators can avoid
introducing contamination into their systems. Realistic 3D animation allows
the user to fully understand complex microscopic issues relating to system
contamination. Small
Utility Board Training - This
session is designed to help water board members and elected officials
understand the basic principles of public water system regulation, operation,
planning, budgeting and communication. Stormwater Control: Implementing Construction Site BMPs - Designed to help contractors know when and how to implement, manage and maintain BMPs. Best Management Practices (BMPs) are widely used for stormwater management on construction sites larger than one acre. Effective control of sediment at disturbed sites is often compromised by both the limited number of BMPs available to the contractor and limited installation experience. Though the program focuses on the Northern Rockies, it's still usefull for to operators in other regions. More Free Downloads from The Montana Water Center Operator Basics - The download includes three courses: Ground Water, Surface Water, and Wastewater Lagoon Systems. Each course is designed to prepare operators of small public water systems for certification. It also features a "Water Exploration" showcase. Certified operators may use this training to meet continuing education requirements if approved. Sanitary Survey Fundamentals - This prep course is targeted toward new field staff responsible for inspection and evaluation of small water systems for sanitary risks and compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act. This is a good preparation tool to use before attending an advanced workshop. Point-Of-Use Reverse Osmosis (POU-RO) - This tool is meat to familiarize engineers and other water treatment professionals with the use of centrally managed, point-of-use reverse osmosis systems in order to comply with the arsenic drinking water regulations.. Microbial Risk Assessment Tool - This user-friendly computational tool helps small water systems assess (by component) their vulnerability to microbial contamination. The project goal is to foster technical and managerial capacity in small water systems drawing from springs, wells, surface waters or any combination of sources. More Training
