I have had brown water problems for 2 months now. The first sign of brown water accured is when the ground started to thaw out and main breaks accured, after the main breaks were fixed I found my aerator hadnt been working for 2-3 weeks. After the main and aerator problems were fixed the water cleared up for a week or so. When I started having problems again I started adding cl2 before and after the aerator, adding kmn04 as well as backwashing the filters more often. I am still having problems putting out clear water into the distribution system, the filters are not overloaded by design and as long as I backwash the filter approx every 20 hours the water looks clear.I would appreciate any suggestions.

| Did you get your water tested? Brown color is usually caused by manganese. chlorination followed by filtration or using an ion exchange (cation exchange) would be the ways for treating it. However, before any treatment one should get it tested. |
